  • Services

Check Drugs offers various kinds of drug test screenings utilizing urine, hair, blood and oral fluids/saliva. Alcohol testing is available for breath alcohol, standard urine and ETG testing.

  • Saliva Drug Testing

    1. Check Drugs is one of the few Canadian companies to offer saliva drug testing for workplaces.

    2. Saliva drug testing (or oral fluid drug testing) has several advantages over traditional urine testing methods.

  • Pros of saliva drug testing

    1. Drug testing using saliva is quick and can be conducted at the place of employment. Most oral fluid collections take less than five minutes. This reduces downtime and allows more people to be tested. Unlike other kinds of drug testingsuch as urine testing, where results can take days rather than minutes.

    2. Saliva drug testing is non-intrusive and can be done virtually anywhere. Urine testing needs restroom facilities and, for some people it can make them feel uncomfortable.

    3. Testing using saliva is accurate. In fact, using the Drager 5000 drug testing unit results of 99% accuracy rate and greater are achieved.

    4. Oral drug testing, and oral drug testing kits, are very inexpensive. The ability to provide instant results also makes them cheaper since results do not need to be verified by a laboratory.

    5. These oral drug testing kits provide instant results, and can be analyzed by anyone. They are also highly effective.

    6. The detection period for urine is greater than it is for saliva. This potentially means, for example, a person who took a drug 1 or 2 days before work and is able to perform their job safely could return a positive result using urine drug testing. This is why saliva drug testing is considered a more accurate way of determining if someone is fit to be at work.

  • Saliva drug testing equipment

The Drager Drug Test 5000 is used for its saliva drug testing.

    Alcohol Testing

    1. Alcohol tests are aimed at detecting consumption of a legal – though regulated – substance within a much shorter timeframe.

    2. Rather than testing for past usage, an alcohol drug test will register only the immediate presence of alcohol in the human body.

  • Urine Drug Tests

    1. A urine drug test, also known as a urine drug screen or a UDS, is a painless test.

    2. It analyzes your urine for the presence of certain illegal drugs and prescription medications. The person provides a urine sample, and a doctor or technician analyzes it.

    3. The analysis can determine whether a person has used specific drugs in the past few days or weeks, even after the effects of the drugs have worn off.

    4. There are two types of urine drug screens. The first, called the immunoassay, is cost-effective and gives you results fairly quickly. However, it has drawbacks. For example, it doesn’t pick up on all opioids. Also, it sometimes gives false positives. A false positive occurs when the test results come back positive for drugs, but there has been no drug use.

    5. If your first test comes back positive, a follow-up test known as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) is done for confirmation. This type of test uses the same procedure for getting a urine specimen as the immunoassay. GC/MS results are more expensive and take longer to give results, but they rarely produce false positives.

    6. Both types of tests can create a false negative, which is when the test reports a negative result even if there is drug use. Both tests can also fail to capture same-day drug use.
